Giving

2 Corinthians 9:6-8 Amplified Bible (AMP)

6 Now [remember] this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows generously will also reap generously.7 Let each one give just as he has decided in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace come in abundance to you, so that you may have complete sufficiency in everything, and have an abundance for every good work and act of charity.

Baby Boomers are mesemerised with spending : not terribly generous to the Church.

Talking about money and financial giving. Some people will feel OK. Some people feel uncomfortable.  For the latter it means you are not settled in your heart  over how much you are giving. Need a long conversation with God about this.

Four big ideas re giving

1)For a Christian giving financially  is an act of worship that honours God

Matthew 6:21 Amplified Bible (AMP)

21 for where your treasure is, there your heart [your wishes, your desires; that on which your life centres] will be also.

Where we spend our money shows whom we love.

2) Giving is God’s way of providing for you

God blesses the giver. Not health and wealth. Giving  in the light of God’s promises giving makes sense.

2 Corinthians 9:6 Amplified Bible (AMP)

6 Now [remember] this: he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows [a]generously [that blessings may come to others] will also reap [b]generously [and be blessed].

2 Corinthians 9:10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

10 Now He who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide and multiply your seed for sowing [that is, your resources] and increase the harvest of your righteousness [which shows itself in active goodness, kindness, and love].

Malachi 3:6-10 Amplified Bible (AMP)

You Have Robbed God

8 “Will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing Me! But you say, ‘In what way have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings [you have withheld]. 9 You are cursed with a curse, for you are robbing Me, this whole nation! 10 Bring all the tithes (the tenth) into the [a]storehouse, so that there may be [b]food in My house, and test Me now in this,” says the Lord of hosts, “if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you [so great] a blessing until there is no more room to receive it.

3) Planned giving helps you manage money better

  1. Planned giving makes us more away of what we spend. In order to give you need to know what you have.
  2. Planned giving encourages you to budget better. We take money more seriously

How much should we give?

Up to you but with thought and purpose

When do we give?

Give when you receive income

Give on a Sunday Freewill Offering

4) Giving generously financially allows the Church to be the hands and feet of Jesus

If we increase giving

  • Bring hope and comfort to more people
  • Reading to more children
  • Next generation of pastors studying
  • Bring more people to church
  • Grow kids,youth,seniors etc ministries
