Summary Gill Khoury 18 March 2018-03-17
Deut 30:19-20
Sometimes Christians live a compromised Christianity. Don’t choose life because it requires self sacrifice and patience
Want to have their cake and eat it
But why is is so hard to choose
- Luke 22:1-6 New International Version (NIV)
- Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
22 Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some way to get rid of Jesus, for they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 And Judas went to the chief priests and the officers of the temple guard and discussed with them how he might betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and agreed to give him money. 6 He consented, and watched for an opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present.
Judas like us was up against the World, Satan and himself.
Looks impossible. Luke 18. All things are possible with God
But Jesus died to free us from that and he gives us the power to recover from our mistakes and make the right choices
Jesus was not a victim, he defeated Satan
Just because grace is available it doesn’t mean that it’s ok to sin
On the contrary, Paul says
- 1 Timothy 6:12 New International Version (NIV)
- 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Step out in faith and see God come through for you
You don’t need to have your cake and eat it
Choose life
Deut 30:19-20
19 This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live 20 and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to his voice, and hold fast to him. For the Lord is your life, and he will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
